The Furniture Commissions Process

Discussing a bespoke furniture commission
A good cabinet maker always does a full size drawing of the commission before making the furniture

Visit the Workshop

Any commission will typically begin with a meeting with Anselm either here in the workshop or in your home. Here you will be able to explain the brief in person and get a feel for how and where the piece will be made.

Discussing Function

At this stage Anselm will ask you about the function of the piece and how it will fit into your life. Function is a major consideration and so things such as the best type of wood to use will feature heavily in this first discussion.

Discussing your Bespoke Furniture

Once Anselm has a solid grasp of what is required he will spend some time drawing up plans of the piece. He will present you with these possible designs.

Quote, Deposit and Work

Once you have approved a design, Anselm will then quote a price for the job. If you agree, a 50% deposit will be paid and work will commence. Approximately 10 weeks later (6 weeks for a table, 12 weeks for a kitchen) your commission will be completed and, if requested, delivered to you.

Lead-in Time

The whole process may take up to 3-4 months depending on the scale of the project. Rather than being a negative factor, we feel that in this age of instant gratification it is an absolutely positive thing to have to wait.

And let us not forget, everything we make is built to last a lifetime…
