Anselm trained as a cabinet maker and furniture restoration expert with the renowned Michael Hay-Will in Sussex. In 1983 he set up on his own as a furniture maker and furniture restorer in East Lothian.
Anselm Fraser Furniture has gone from strength to strength. The business now employs 5 full-time cabinet makers and Anselm is regarded as one of the UK’s leading exponents on the art of furniture making and design. His signature blue and copper style has many fans and he has restored some very fine furniture, including the poet William Wordsworth’s bureau.
Anselm is heavily influenced by Thomas Chippendale who successfully married traditional skills with the modern world. So despite the generic mass market, Anselm believes that there is still a place for beautiful, bespoke furniture, crafted by experts to an exceptional standard.
In 1985, Anselm also founded his own woodworking school, The Chippendale International School of Furniture (www.chippendale.co.uk). He and his team operate the school alongside the furniture business, acting as tutors to the students as well as being furniture makers and furniture restorers.
